Merge Midwest was part of the TREKK team that completed a safety study for a 16-mile segment of the Route 65 corridor in Missouri between Springfield and Branson. The corridor has mountainous grades, high traffic volumes, and multiple horizonal curves, which have contributed to many crashes. The safety study procedures included reviewing crash, volume, and speed data, and implementing the Highway Safety Manual methodology to develop a benefit-cost ratio of all proposed improvements. The recommended improvements were prioritized based on their benefit-cost ratio and MoDOT’s $3.5 million budget for safety improvements.
