Project Description
Janelle Clayton, PE, PTOE was selected to serve as the advising traffic engineer for the Safety, Beautification, and Connectivity Ad Hoc Committee for the study of Tomahawk Road from Mission Road to State Line Road in Mission Hills, Kansas. The upcoming reconstruction of Tomahawk Road provided an opportunity to implement safety and connectivity improvements.
Improvements Janelle advised on and that were considered by the committee included the construction of a sidewalk within the existing roadbed to alleviate the need to remove established trees or impact homeowners’ properties. Traffic calming options were proposed, including traffic circles, roundabouts, and lane narrowing. Janelle worked with representatives from the community, including residents, committee chairs, city staff, and city council to present available options and help the committee reach consensus on the suggested improvements.
