Project Description

Merge Midwest designed a High-Intensity Activated CrossWalK (HAWK) beacon at the intersection of 81st Street and Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park, Kansas. The new HAWK Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) serves users of the new Avenue 81 multi-use complex which includes retail shopping, senior independent-living units, and assisted-living units.

Understanding the need for mobility for these patrons, Merge Midwest worked closely with City staff to ensure American with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant sidewalk ramps were provided for pedestrians. The project also included street lighting modifications, pavement marking, and permanent signing.
